Unemployment Benefits (TWC)

The Texas Workforce Commission ("TWC") provides unemployment benefits services in Texas. It is common for a former employee to seek unemployment benefits after the employment relationship ends. Before a former employee can receive unemployment benefits, and depending on the facts of the case, the TWC may evaluate some of the following factors:

  • Was the worker terminated or did the worker voluntarily quit;
  • Was there any misconduct connected to the discharge;
  • Was there a refusal of suitable work without good cause;
  • Was there a work stoppage from participating in a labor dispute; and/or
  • Was there a receipt of any severance pay/wages in lieu of notice or other certain payment types.

The Hansum Law Firm has extensive experience dealing with the TWC on issues ranging from helping companies respond to benefits requests, handing any unemployment appeals, and any eventual litigation.
